In the past years a lot of Colorado rivers would be reaching the end of their run-off this time of the year, that is not the case in 2017, due to warm weather in the month of February and a good delay in snow and rain it caused snow melt to happen in the later months than usual. This for the average fisherman means we have to deal with fast moving current when it tends to make fishing more of a challenge. Depending on your style of fishing it can pay off to fish during the run off. Some of my favorite way to fish during the times when rivers are rushing is using nymphs, big stone flies will do the trick and even putting a san juan worm on does the trick. Another successful way I’ve been able to get into fish is using a silver or gold pattern kastmaster. Most of the rivers like Big Thompson and Cache La Poudre are still at the peak of the run-off or just tapering down so you’ll either have to wait a bit longer to fish at the comfort level you’re use to or try the methods I mentioned.
